Stanford President Richard Saller told university faculty recently that the Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO) was simply doing “research,” when it mass-flagged alleged “misinformation” to social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. That’s according to Stanford School of Medicine Professor Jay Bhattacharya.

Saller is wrong. The evidence is now overwhelming that SIO demanded mass censorship by social media platforms of often-accurate Covid vaccine information, and also interfered in the 2020 elections.

SIO and its defenders argue that they were simply exercising their First Amendment rights by demanding censorship.

But the newly released documents show that the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) asked SIO and three other censorship advocacy groups to create the “Election Integrity Partnership” (EIP) and “Virality Project” (VP) to engage in mass censorship.

As today is Veterans’ Day, now feels like a good time to remind ourselves that our ancestors fought and died so that we could have a free country that was run by the people, not by the speech police.

It is grotesque that DHS-CISA, the Department of Defense (DOD), the National Science Foundation(NSF), the FBI, and “other government agencies” (a.k.a. the CIA) secretly created and grew the Censorship Industrial Complex.

We Americans are free people. We don't want secret committees of bureaucrats plotting to decide what we can say, hear, write, and read. Let the Europeans engage in such authoritarian paternalism. Our ancestors invented America to get away from such horrors.

The size and power of the Censorship Industrial Complex (CIC) is daunting. The latest batch of documents that Public reported on this week shows that we still have not gotten to the bottom of what happened.

But we are now on the front foot against the censorship menace, and censorship advocates are on the defensive. Whatever the Supreme Court decides, the tide is turning.

As such, we have created our own plot to dismantle the CIC. Unlike the speech police, we won’t keep ours secret. Here’s what it should consist of:
